Jousting Warfare
This is a term used by (some) fans.
Jousting warfare is a term referring to a specific tactic often used by assault ships vs. assault ships. It's named for its romantic similarity to ancient jousting where two horsemen each wielding a lance clash with each other until one falls. It is also named after a similar Abh children's game in zero-gravity where bound by a line two try to hit each other with a stick.[1]
Background[edit | edit source]
Assault ships usually have one single big antiproton cannon with a limit arc of fire. The only way to quickly destroy another nimble assault ship is to get one or more hits by the antiproton cannon. It's for this reason that assault ships perform a jousting like tactic. For maximum defense and effect this is usually conducted by the whole Flight against another.
