The Occupation of Sufagnoff refers to the period in ICY 951 when the United Mankind Peace Force conquered the Sufagnoff March from the Empire.

Background[edit | edit source]

As part of the Operation Herkules scheme, Sufagnoff became a strategic site for the success of the operation. It was a major space port with an Imperial communications base. It would also mark one end of half of the 12th sord ring that would come under the Four Nations Alliance's occupation. Holding Sufagnoff and luring Imperial forces was the main objective of the operation.

Occupation[edit | edit source]

As there were little to no Imperial forces in the system the occupation came quick and easy. The United Mankind forces destroyed all orbital stations and orbital elevators without regard to civil casualties. The Marquis, his family, and followers were detained on site. Yet, some of his followers and the local government were able to escape and go underground.

Immediately, after having secured the local space an unexpected incident occurred.[1][2] Without encountering further resistance the occupation force landed their ground forces in all major cities on Clasbul. Despite their just cause claim as a liberation force, the United Mankind army immediately set road blocks and began hunting blue haired people. Blue hair and other peculiar clothing were the local fashion of the time. People that were caught were forced to shave their hair.[3][4] The searches and detention without warrant, forced shaving, disrespect and disregard to victim's dignity and human rights and humiliation caused dissatisfaction among the citizens. However, the propaganda machinery of the Peace Force appeased and kept public opinion in check.[5][6] Only for a minor portion of the population was the United Mankind's forcing of their own values on the locals and discrimination against local fashion sense unacceptable. Even when the occupation force increased searches, expanded road blocks, declared martial law the public remained tolerant. But then the occupation forced began to ignore local law altogether, confiscated public property for their cause, and started firing after assailants without care for civil safety[7], causing mayhem and lateral damage.[8][9] This caused outrage and turned public opinion against them.

The occupation force was trampling more on the local's rights than the Empire. In contrast the Empire dealt everyone with respect, let them do as they pleased and only forces a minor number of things that had little impact to their daily life:

  • being part of the Empire under a local lord
  • having no interstellar technology if not already have it
  • paying trade tax to the local lord

Aftermath[edit | edit source]

The news and reports on what happened during Clasbul's occupation displeased many Imperial subjects. Despite the general dislike against the Abh, the United Mankind became more hateful. Provinces or countries with loyal people and people formerly alienated by the United Mankind were more than willing to join the fight now. Although, it is unconfirmed the Empire appears to have more trouble to accommodate recruits and their training than actually recruiting people.
