The Abh main battle tank is a typical military combat vehicle featuring a modular design.

Design[edit | edit source]

The vehicle is a modular design with a separate-able front and aft section.

Crew[edit | edit source]

The vehicle has room for a crew of 3. The driver is in the front section and commander and gunner in the aft section. The driver is optional and usually filled by an android or robot. Vehicle operation is fully automated and could be operated by a single person. However, in practice 2-3 are needed in order to do proper maintenance or field repairs.

Wheels[edit | edit source]

The vehicle has 8 wheels; 4 for each section. The wheels are airless tires with in-hub motors. Each motor is rated at 500 kW nominal power with a maximum of 800 kW. The wheels have a load rating of 9000 kg in a 1.5 g environment. Each wheel is connected to its own suspension and steering system which offer an effective 6-axis of freedom.

Suspension[edit | edit source]

The vehicle has an adaptive suspension system for all-terrain and a gravity rating of up to 1.5g. It can safely cushion a fall from 5 m. The nominal ground clearing is ~0.472 m.

Power system[edit | edit source]

The vehicle has two fusion power generators; one in each section. Each generator has a nominal power of 2.56 MW with a maximum of 3.2 MW.

Power allocation breakdown:

  • autmotive system: 4 MW
  • weapons: 1 MW
  • on-board system: 120 kW

There are multiple power network and batteries redundancies for support and safety. These provide reserve, surge and emergency power. Reserve power by itself is required to operate movement for 2 hours at a speed of 50 km/h with full weapons usage limited to 10 min.

Weapons[edit | edit source]

The primary weapon is a multi-purpose multi-beam FEL gun system. The laser system has 6 turreted beams. Although, all turrets are multi-purpose: 3 turrets are assigned for primary use and 3 mini turrets are for defense. Each primary turrets is rated for 8 MJ and a max rate of fire (ROF) of 30. The mini turrets are rated for 1.5 MJ and a ROF of 300. The primary turrets have an effective optical range of ~480 km and the mini turrets ~90 km within the atmosphere. The turrets operate and target separately but can employ concentrated fire if necessary. Power is provided by high power superconductor capacitor ring (SMES). The SMES is used as a pool and can provide instant power to all beams. It has a capacity of ~2 GJ. The power distribution is divided on the as needed basis.

The secondary weapon is a 30/35 mm mortar railgun. It has a mass of 670 kg and a "barrel" length of 3.3 m. It has a variable power envelope depending on the "projectile", hence, has direct influence on the rate of fire. It is rated for a maximum 20 MJ of muzzle energy and a maximum of 2700 m/s of muzzle velocity. Direct firing range is limited by visual horizon and at minimum is 5.1 km on a flat plane. Maximum indirect range is ~465 km.

It is supplied by an automatic loading system using common sized magazines.

  • multi-purpose: An ammunition magazine (~0.2m³) loaded with 2000 standard grenade cores (140 kg) weights about ~180 kg (total). An extra add-on magazine (~0.025m³) for caps is required for each ammunition magazine. The nominal rating is ~1.1 MJ for a 4-grenade ~0.3 kg projectile fired at 2700 m/s and an indirect range of 450 km. Rate of fire is limited by the loading mechanic to 12-30s shot per minute. The number of grenades per "projectile" can be configured on the fly. Each grenade can vaporize everything within a radius of 0.4-2 m depending on safety setting.
  • anti-armor: An ammunition magazine (~0.225m³) loaded with 50 penetrators (150 kg) weights about ~200 kg (total). No more than two magazines can be fitted. The kinetic energy penetrator is a multi-section telescopic design. It has a diameter of 27mm, a stored length of 250 mm and an extended length of 1000 mm after firing, hence, a length-to-diameter ratio of ~37:1. The nominal rating is 18.75 MJ for a 3 kg penetrator projectile fired at 2500 m/s and a range in excess of 2000 km. Rate of fire is limited by available power to 24 shots per minute. However, this type of ammunition is inefficient and outdated, hence, the multi-purpose type is preferred.
